Course Description
This course is designed to provide participants to an introduction of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), which is a developmentally responsive, play-based mental health intervention for children and adolescents who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioural and relational issues.
This course emphasises the non-directive method of working with children, focusing on the therapeutic relationship and deepening the connection as the therapist learns to enter into the world of the client and to be led by the client.
Course Objectives

To understand the application of the eight basic principles of CCPT as developed by Virginia Axline

To develop skills to create a therapeutic atmosphere with appropriate toys and art supplies to facilitate the growth and self-expression of a child

To learn and practice the ability to establish rapport, engage and respond appropriately to the child during play in order to build a strong therapeutic relationship

To learn to practice effective limit setting during therapeutic play sessions to help a child build a sense of self-responsibility and self-efficacy so as to keep play sessions safe

To identify the major stages of CCPT and to recognise indicators of completed therapy and evaluate client progress
Eligibility
The course is open to professionals of the mental health fields; including psychologists, counsellors, social workers, physicians, child life specialists, nurses, and occupational therapists.
Participants should have at least a Bachelor’s or higher degree in an area of mental health related education, be currently practicing in the field, and have attended Module 1 – Introduction to Play Therapy.

Certification of Attendance
Certificate of Attendance - will be presented to the participant at the end of each course.
Certificate of Completion - upon completion of additional requirements such as assignments and supervision sessions.
Certificate in Play Therapy - Certificate of Completion for all modules are required.
Certificate Recognition
This Certificate of Attendance is awarded by Healing Hearts Centre and certificate training hours are recognised both by the Association for Play Therapy (USA) and by the Association for Play Therapy (Singapore) for the individual who is working towards their Registered Play Therapist qualifications.
