MODULE 1:

INTRODUCTION TO PLAY THERAPY

What makes play become therapy?

The therapeutic powers of play is the core foundation which all types and styles of Play Therapy are based, and the reason for powerful effects on children, adolescents or adults.

 

There are literally hundreds of types of play therapy in existence today. Find out how they came about and what you need to know before making a decision on your future pathway to becoming a play therapist

Duration: 3 days (9am -5:30pm)

  • Completed "Introduction to Play Therapy" (conducted by NUS Social Work Continuing Professional Education)

  • Completed PTI Diploma in Play Therapy Program

MODULE 2:

INTRODUCTION TO CHILD CENTERED PLAY THERAPY

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is a developmentally responsive, play-based mental health intervention for children and adolescents who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioural and relational issues. 

 

Learn the non-directive method of working with children, focusing on the therapeutic relationship and deepening the connection as the therapist learns to enter into the world of the client and to be led by the client.

Duration: 2 days (9am -5:30pm)

Exemptions:

  • Completed "Child-Centered Play Therapy" (conducted by NUS Social Work Continuing Professional Education)

  • Completed PTI Post Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills Program

  • Completed PTI Diploma in Play Therapy Program

MODULE 3:

INTRODUCTION TO SANDTRAY THERAPY

This course is designed to provide the participant with a brief understanding of sandtray therapy basics, including covering the history and prominent literature in the field of sandtray therapy, categories of miniatures, setting up the sandtray room in conjunction with the playroom as well as facilitative skills used with sandtray therapy and the sandtray protocol.

 

This course will also cover neurobiology, where participants will be able to discuss how it impacts the work of the therapist in sandtray.

Duration: 3 days (9am -5:30pm)

MODULE 4:

INTRODUCTION TO COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL PLAY THERAPY

This course is designed to introduce participants to the principles of Cognitive-Behavioural Play Therapy (CBPT), a directive play therapy approach where play is used to engage with the child, to listen to the child and to communicate concepts to the child. Participants learn about communicating the cognitive triangle to the child and how changes may be made through cognitive coping and coping skills such as relaxation.

 

This course will also provide participants with some play-based interventions from assessment to termination and include discussion about integrating culture into CBPT through culture-sensitive techniques.

Duration: 2 days (9am -5:30pm)

MODULE 5:

INTRODUCTION TO TRAUMAPLAY™

This course is designed to provide participants to an introduction of the TraumaPlayTM approach, where evidence informed trauma treatment with children is translated into a sequence of play-based component modules that celebrate the intersection of the neurobiology of play and the neurobiology of trauma, while honouring current evidence-based approaches in the field of trauma. Each component represents an important dimension of play therapy for trauma treatment and articulates both a specific treatment goal and accompanying interventions.

 

It will also introduce participants to the child’s metaphorical use of the playroom where that is demonstrated through a multitude of case examples and augmented with a variety of prop-based play therapy interventions.

 

An additional emphasis in this introductory course includes introducing participants to engaging parents as partners in the treatment process and the intake and assessment procedures surrounding that.

MODULE 6:

TRAUMAPLAY™ INTERMEDIATE TRAINING

Each component of the model will be taught through lecture, demonstrated live, or through video clips and case examples, and experienced in dyads or small groups, so that didactic teaching is augmented with live practice by participants.

 

Specific skill sets will be assessed longingly and will help clinicians show proficiency will clinical skill sets and the application of specific interventions.

This a three-day training, equaling to 20 hours of continuing education.

Duration: 3 days (9am -5:30pm)

MODULE 7:

TRAUMAPLAY™ ADVANCED TRAINING

This training will build on initial skills, work with advanced applications of the model and how to modify it for special populations.

 

Bringing clinical nuance to all components of the model will help clinicians go deeper in their application of treatment components to a variety of presentations.

This a three-day training, equaling to 20 hours of continuing education.

Duration: 3 days (9am -5:30pm)
